Accord and Henkel Office: Ames

Accord Architecture and Henkel Construction Company moved their central Iowa office to a new location after purchasing an office building originally designed for and occupied by a structural engineering firm in Ames. It had experienced significant deterioration in recent years and needed extensive renovation. The two-story office building includes 2,700 square feet on each level. The renovation’s beauty results from its overall simple geometric shape enhanced by architectural elements, with clean lines supporting the building’s shape. Open trusses provide interior volume at the upper level of the office building. An abundance of natural light is achieved with the many windows. Accord’s design includes green building solutions such as LED programmable lighting, closed-cell insulation, and high-efficiency HVAC systems. Saving an existing building — not filling the landfill with a lot of debris — is one of the most “green” things we can do in our industry.
