Sigma Phi Epsilon: ISU, Ames

Iowa Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity hired Accord Architecture to determine feasibility and design a renovation and addition(s). Their house at Iowa State University in Ames was built in the early 1900s. Accord’s design includes new, more expansive study rooms, a new patient sleeping wing (dormitory), renovation of the house-mother apartment, updated finishes, and infrastructure improvements. Accord suggested that historic preservation funding was achievable for this project, then prepared applications for historic tax credits through the State Historical Society of Iowa (State Historic Preservation Office). Sig Ep was awarded these credits from both Federal and State authorities. Accord’s research and documentation work included the application for placement on the National Register of Historic Places.
